Commonly Overlooked Moving Essentials You Should Have

Moving in Austin can be an incredibly frustrating and draining experience for anyone. These feelings are only compounded when you run into unforeseen issues, or you don't have access to the materials and supplies you need to ensure a smooth transition.

Today, we will go over some of the more commonly overlooked moving essentials you should really have on hand to make your next move so much easier.

Basic Cleaning Supplies

These are important to have for moving out of a home as well as for the first day you move into the new home. Paper towels, a multi-purpose cleaning spray, a small vacuum, rags, sponges, detergents, broom and dustpan, and toilet bowl cleaner are a few things to include in your cleaning arsenal.

You want to make sure the home in Austin you are moving out of is clean and ready for its new tenants, but you also want to make sure that your new home is fresh and clean and ready for you and your family as well.

Batteries

Batteries are always something to have on hand no matter what, but they can prove to be especially helpful during a move. Moving into a new home means checking the smoke detectors and changing out the batteries for new ones. You may also find that your remote controls are also in need of fresh batteries.

Toolkit

A hammer, screwdrivers, measuring tape, pliers, and a utility knife should all be a part of your essential moving kit. This is good to have when moving because you are sure to have to take measurements for blinds or curtains, open boxes, and hang shelves and picture frames during the first few days and week of moving. Having to search for these basic tools can be frustrating, so keep them in a clearly marked box, or somewhere that is easy to access.

Toilet Paper

This sounds like a given, but toilet paper is actually one of the more commonly overlooked items during a move to a new home. So to save yourself a trip to the store when you should be spending your time settling in, make sure to have a roll or two handy for that first night, at least.

Overnight Bag

Finally, it is always a good idea to pack a small overnight bag to help get you through the first night in your new home. Everything is going to be packed away in boxes, and no one wants to spend time rustling through boxes the first night to find something they need - especially after they have spent a long and tiring day moving.

When packing your bag, don't forget water and snacks, a toothbrush, and your phone charger. These are all essential items that many of us need to have on a daily basis, and they are definitely items we don't want to have to hunt down after our move.

Moving can be stressful, but you can easily eliminate a few of those bumps in the road when you have a plan, and you stick to it.
